My name is Dr Sean Breen and for the past 2 years in Irvine I have dedicated my practice to seeing patients for medical marijuana recommendations. Often patients ask me if I think Tax and Regulate is going to pass on the November ballot and what I think about it. The anser to those questions are:

1. I have no idea if it will pass. And if it does I believe that there will be ton of lawsuits contesting it and it will not go into law anytime soon.

Today I met with Steve in my Long Beach office. Steve is 62 and currently lives at the VA hospital in Long Beach. Steve is a Viet Nam war veteran and was living in a shelter prior to being admitted to the VA. The reason why he was in my office is because he was assaulted with a baseball bat and required emergency brain surgery. Obviously I’m sickened by how our Viet Nam vets were treated when they came back from the war but to see a guy like this get clobbered by a bunch of hoodlums is pretty unbelievable. Steve uses cannabis for chronic headaches as a result of his surgery.

As medical director for Medical Cannabis of Southern California I am often asked what it is like to be a “cannabis consultant.” Patients are curious as to how I got into this field and colleagues are often skeptical of the industry as a whole.

The short answer answer to the question of what it is like to be in this industry is; amazing. Every day I leave my office feeling grateful for my health, blessed to have what I have and satisfaction for the work I have done. It is rare that a day goes by that a patient doesn’t say “thank you for helping me and doing what you are doing.” Speak to a 100 internists and see how many times their patients actually thank them for the work they do. NOT MANY!

Every now and then someone enters your life and just plain ol’ blesses you with kindness. Today I had a patient who happened to be in the film industry. During the course of my interview it came up that I had just purchased a new Canon Vixio HD camcorder to shoot video of the clinic and some patient testimonials so that my potential patients can see how professional our clinics are and the “types” of patients that we see.

Today in my Irvine office I met with a pleasant 61 year old women who had estrogen receptor positive breast cancer and was currently undergoing treatment with the drug Femara (letrozole). Unfortunately it is causing severe nausea and decreasing her appetite.

Today in my Irvine clinic I had two patients who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). One was unfortunately physically and verbally abused by her boss and the second was involved in a very traumatic car accident where he lost one of his best friends. Both of these patients experienced a combination of difficulty sleeping, recurring nightmares, avoidance and depression.
