Forgive me for this off topic blog but I have reached my boiling point today!   For the past 10 years our country has been at war and young (and old) men and women having been giving their life and limbs to protect us here in the United States.    Our heroes are dying and their families are being crushed. I am so sick and tired of people saying how the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were necessary and that the world is a better place without Sadam Hussein, yet they are not willing to send their own children to give their lives for the cause.

I served in the Navy Medical Corps for 9 years and spent my last 4 with the Marines at Camp Pendleton.   I did a combat deployment to Iraq in 2003 with 1st Battalion, 4th Marines.   As the battalions medical officer, I personally held a 19 year old Marine in my arms as he died (PFC Juan Garza- April 8, 2003)  I have experienced the brutality of war and know first hand what the consequences are of the President and congress saying “Let’s Go to War”.

Because I live in Orange County the majority of the people here are conservatives.   Most of them that I have spoken with were supportive of George Bush and the War on Terror (Iraq).    When I pose this question to them:

Would you be willing, back in 2002, to send one of your sons or daughters to Iraq to get rid of Sadam Hussein? But here is the condition to that question.  100% your son or daughter will DIE IN COMBAT.

When you pose that question to them… across the board their answer is no I would not send them to combat.

So here is my frustration: IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO GIVE YOUR OWN CHILD’S LIFE FOR THE CAUSE, DON’T ASK MY MOTHER AND FATHER DO TO THE SAME! The reality is when you support or vote for politicians that are sending our sons and daughters to war many of them are going to die or be maimed for life.

IN OTHER WORDS:  PUT SOME SKIN IN THE GAME AND YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND SAY WHATEVER YOU WANT.
