Governor Jerry Brown just vetoed SB 847 which if passed would had prohibited medical marijuana dispensaries from operating within 600 feet of ANY residential property.   His reasoning was that he prefers to give local municipalities the authority to create their own ordinances and that this bill would have created more confusion.    I agree [...]

As medical director for Medical Cannabis of Southern California I have seen several thousand patients for medical marijuana recommendations. I operate two clinics in Irvine and Long Beach 5 days per week. In the past 6 months I have seen an explosion of doctor “clinics” pop up offering recommendations for almost nothing. Wondering how any doctor or business model could sustain with such ridiculous prices I decided to do some homework to see what was really taking place out there. What I found is pretty gross (for lack of a better word). I want to encourage dispensaries to look into the clinics for recommendations that are new or they do not recognize to make sure they are operating legally before accepting their patients.

The Orange County Register posted an article today stating that a superior court judge ordered ALL legal cannabis dispensaries (collectives) to shut down immediately. One of his reasons is that a city can not create a Land-Use Ordinance that violates federal law. He elaborated that since cannabis is illegal federally it is illegal for a city to create an ordinance that allows for collectives to legally operate. WOW!
