Today in Irvine I evaluated a 52 year old man who was diagnosed with TMJ (temperomandibular joint pain) syndrome. His symptoms included chronic pain at the joint and headaches. His pain also made it difficult for him to fall asleep. He had been self medicating with cannabis to not only decrease the pain when he has an attack but also stated that when he medicates with cannabis he is less likely to have an attack.
The TMJ is a joint that is located on the upper portion of the jaw bone as it articulates with the skull. You can feel the joint by sticking the tip of your finger into your ear and opening and closing you mouth. Pain can arise at this joint as a result of many factors. Tight muscles in the cheek, arthritis, dental procedures and misalignment of the cranial bones are the most common reasons people develop TMJ.
What I have found is that patients who receive acupuncture treatments to release the tension in the muscles of the cheek get THE MOST RELIEF. There is an acupuncturist in Encinitas, Tassy Hennessy (760-207-1264), who specializes in treating patients with TMJ. In addition for pain control cannabis works amazing. It improves sleep and actually helps to relax the muscles surrounding the joint.
Before you ever consider surgery I highly recommend you give her a call and also come in to try cannabis for pain management. You can simply give us a call to schedule an appointment at 877-721-0047 or pre-qualify for FREE at www.mcsocal.com
I have clinics located in Irvine and Long Beach and see patients 5 days per week.
Respectfully,
Dr. Breen

TMJ jaw pain can be a frustrating and aggravating thing to deal with,
because the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is used all day long. Luckily,
there is some help for TMJ pain, and some of the treatment options can be
done at home. You can get a good remedies for tmj by using tmj-relief.
Great information thanks for getting this out there for people like me to read.
My name is Ellen. I have been diagnosed with TMJD at age 14. I have been suffering from TMJD for 7 years. I am only 21 years old. I have moderate to severe degeneration of the joint and it probably cannot be recaptured. I am in constant pain from wake to sleep.
So far, I’ve taken muscle relaxants, relafen, painkillers and other anti-inflammatorys to treat my pain. I have even tried splint therapy and neuromuscular dentistry. It costed 5 grand and lasted 3 months. I finally got recommended to try medical marijuana from a friend. So far, it’s been one of the best and most helpful way to manage my chronic pain. I can eat, talk, sleep and most importantly LIVE.
I hope more research can be done on medical marijuana and its benefits for TMJD in the future. It is a horrible debilitating problem that not only costs a fortune but has no guarantees.
I just took care of another TMJ patient today that is at her wits end. Glad to hear it is providing you some relief. Be blessed.
